Geometric method

“...a method whereby...I can increase my knowledge gradually...”

This is one of the greatest virtues of D’s thought, I think: he never claims to have a grand system of truths, but only tries to methodically string together the bits he’s discovered. It really makes him one of the most disciplined of the A-list modern thinkers. (Compare Hume and Kant, for instance.) His work is what philosophy would look like if it were modeled on geometry.

By doing this, he allows a rational system of deduction into his quest for the truth. If more people were able to realize and comprehend that everything has some basis in logic then we'd be much better off. By having this ability to breakdown life through a mathematical system only goes to prove the height of his understanding.

its funny that you say this becuase in the beginning of part 4 in the discourse he uses geometry as an example. yes geometry can be proven but writting equations down and solving for them but who's to say that if you are not educated in geometry, to know that someone has made a mistake.... I think thats what he was talking about anyways... Still another hole in the system of proof!
